New! Student Initiated Group (Club) Formation Process
To propose a group the child will pick up an application from their teacher. Students are responsible for finding a certificated teacher to monitor the group. The teacher monitors the students for safety purposes and makes sure parent permission has been granted to attend. (Teachers are not required to monitor groups and should not be compelled to do so.)
To make sure there is broader interest in forming the group the child must also get the signatures of five other students who would want to be in the group. (Signing does not guarantee a spot in the group, if too many students submit permission slips to a selected group, then a lottery will be held to determine final membership.)
The completed application is then turned in to the principal by October 31, 2024. The principal will review only the applications that are complete. Five clubs from the completed applications will be selected through a lottery. Once the five groups are chosen other students will have an opportunity to officially join the group and parent permission will be required.
This process is explained more in Regulation 2153, https://www.isd411.org/about-us/regulations/2000-series/2153-non-curriculum-related-elementary-school-student-groups . This is an exciting opportunity for students to show leadership and agency within their school!
